General Disclaimer

All calculators, charts, and guides on sheetgauge.com/ are for reference and estimation purposes only. Results are not certified engineering values.

sheetgauge.com/ provides sheet metal reference tools for general use by fabricators, engineers, buyers, and students. All outputs are estimates based on standard published values.

🚫 Do not use our calculator outputs as sole evidence for load-bearing structural design, safety-critical applications, or legal/contractual weight guarantees without independent professional verification.

Weight Calculator Accuracy

Calculator Type Typical Accuracy When to Verify
Sheet / Plate weight ±1–2% of actual High-value procurement orders
Structural sections (I-beam, RHS) ±1–3% Before placing supply orders
Pipe / hollow section ±2–4% Always check mill certificate
Cost estimator ±5–10% Use for budgeting only — get formal quotation

Actual weights depend on mill tolerances (ASTM A480, EN 10051, IS 1730), exact alloy composition, surface coating thickness, and measurement method. Our calculators use nominal density values and theoretical dimensions.

Gauge Standard Disclaimer

Multiple gauge systems exist (BWG, SWG, US Standard, B&S / AWG, Manufacturers’ Standard) and they assign different thicknesses to the same gauge number for different metals. Our converters apply the correct standard for each metal as per published references, but:

  • Always confirm the gauge standard your supplier is using before ordering
  • Gauge systems are not standardized globally — the same gauge number means different thicknesses in different countries
  • For critical applications, always specify thickness in mm or inches, not gauge numbers
ℹ️ Industry best practice: always order sheet metal by thickness in millimetres or inches, not by gauge number, to avoid ambiguity with suppliers.
